The Fallout 76 game may begin with the standard phrase “War and war never change similar,” however, this one takes us to the post-apocalypse in entirely different circumstances. In the most recent installment of the series, Bethesda abandons the classic single-player fads and presents an online-only role-playing game for the very first time in the history of the series known as the End-Times.

A bold move that splits the group. While some people are excited to be in a position to go through Fallout with their family and friends, others mourn an unforgettable solo experience.

In the abstract, Fallout 76 has the potential to unite the two camps. West Virginia, Appalachia, offers space for lone wolves and co-op packs. It is designed to provide both an experience for single players and multiplayer. However, in practice, it’s this compromise that creates certain issues that were not previously encountered within Bethesda gaming.

Shining New World

Twenty-five years ago, nuclear bombs nearly destroyed the Earth. In a protected bunker located in West Virginia, we have been spared the catastrophic effects that resulted from that Great War, but now leap to the surface.

Our aim? Rebuild the deserted landscape of Appalachia and learn the fate of its inhabitants. Most of the time, they were swept away by a mysterious virus that destroyed them or changed them into zombies without will “burned.”

After we’ve crafted our ideal hero using the standard editor, Fallout 76 shoos us out of the four-bunker wall quickly compared to the previous version. Then we grab our Pip-Boy, do not waste time, and step into the wide, open world.

The game turns out to be the highlight in Fallout 76, making it even more frustrating that Bethesda has wasted so much potential in terms of narrative this time.

Stories of the desert that are not often told

There is no dialogue or make decisions. Instead of Fallout 76, the game tells its stories through tapes, terminals, and letters. For all that, Fallout 76 shines like its predecessors in environmental storytelling – which is creating stories that focus on the natural world. When we travel, as an example, we stop at the ski resort in the northern part of the map; however, only burnt bobble-wearing people are gathered and want to slash our throats by using ski swords. It’s a hilarious moment which is an excellent example of the game’s sly humor.

From A to B , to C, and back

For example, we’ll need to find a part for a signal amplifier within an old Raider base and then put it together in a specific basement located south of it. Then, we take the completed component back to our robot-commissioner, located in a different location on the world map and high on the top of a tower.

This monotonous plan of action runs through many of the major and side missions, turning us into people who blindly follow the unpersonal instructions of terminals, tapes, and robots. As robotic as our clients are, we are robots in our travels and search for fun, wit, and creativity; we cannot find the soul.

Anyone who wanders in the wilderness as a lonely player could therefore encounter difficulties playing Fallout 76. You won’t have the classic adventure like in the sequels with a single player. It’s only enjoyable when you go out with your friends in co-op mode with quests completely to the left and exploring Appalachia far from the usual routes.
