The controls are well-designed and flexible
The most apparent changes are noticeable. The noticeably bigger icons, text such as icons, and buttons are heavier than the screen space used on our PC. We could see how important this is while playing this game with the giant TV screen while using the Switch at its docking station for the first time. We can easily browse the vast civilopedia just a few meters away from the couch without needing to slide into the flatscreen continuously.
Furthermore, all information that is required is accessible quickly and easily. We can use the overlay to display the ratio of the religious majority or want to look at what happens to the availability of luxurious items in cities; we can access everything in just a couple of clicks without needing to look for a long period.
Most actions in handheld mode take place precisely in controlling the Joy-Cons. But, they can be controlled at any time, using the thumb on display to move or scroll the index finger on the map the way it feels most convenient to us.
Excellent: Civilization 6 allows both inputs to control parallel to one other. If you wish, you could even obliterate the Joy-Cons and play using only your fingers, just like with the iOS version that is also available.
A few DLC are included, but the biggest addon is missing
All patches and fixes, however, are already incorporated into the updated version. If the Rise-and Fall DLC will be updated in the future is undetermined, but we believe it will be. In the end, there’s already an option called “Downloadable Content” on the main menu. There are currently only integrated DLC packages that can be turned off.
Technology and performance
The time required to calculate the opponent’s moves is slightly longer because of the lower processing power but remains within the acceptable limit of up to two minutes, even in a later game with many AI players.
